Description: Manufactured by: The National Cash Register Co., Dayton, Ohio Model number: 356 Serial number: 1529559W Date built; 1915 Cabinet design: Dolphin design. Finish code: "C" or nickel plated over solid brass. The 300 series was introduced in 1908 & built thru the mid 20's. There were many variations from small to very large. The 356 was the largest of the series except for the 2 drawer or autograph printer models. It has a printer & 33 keys with no sale & special keys. The special keys provided an inventory count for special items. The Dolphin design was one of the most artistic cabinets built by National. The 300 series was known as a total adder meaning that all keys added to a central total that could be read at the end of the day. It was a one shot register meaning that you had to add up the items for each customer on a paper & ring the total, the register would open & display that total. For this era it had many features that helped the owner control & safe guard his money. Pluses:It is 98 years old. It seems to be complete & working. It has been restored with painted key arms.It has a repro top sign. The coin slab is nice. The drawer front has the nice early drawer pull. The cabinet is all bronze & has been polished. The drawer has been refinished with 3 bill weights. Other: The wooden base ring is from a 700 series & not original. Grade; I would rate this machine as a grade "1 minus" or restored condition. Delivery can be arranged within a 200 mile radius of Nashville upon discussion.
