A prolific artist and printmaker, Rowlandson produced both individual social and political satires, as well as a large number of illustrations for novels, humorous books, and topographical works. Like other caricaturists of his age such as James Gillray, his caricatures are often robust or bawdy. Twenty-eight hundred portfolios of Thomas Rowlandson's Medical caricatures were printed for the members of Editions Medicina Rara Ltd. by Lithomasters, Inc, New York, New York on permanent, natural Curtis Rag laid paper bearing the private watermark of Medicina Rara. Twenty-five hundred single suites have been placed in boxed portfolios covered in Cutis Tweedweave laid paper, and numbered in Arabic numerals 1-2500. This is portfolio 933.
