Description: This is a rare oversized haunting portrait of a young girl suspended between adolescent and womanhood. Keane adds some unusual symbolic elements, random pearls. The coloring, the tilt of the head and the position of the body with it's lyrical quality evokes early icon paintings of Madonnas. Despite the kitschy connotations of Keane and the big eyes, I've kept this lithograph since I bought it in San Francisco, probably at the storefront specializing in Keane, in 1961. There's something that captivates despite the cliched elements and hints at the artist she might have been. She boldly signs it with her own signature in the lower right corner. No inflation, no supply chain disappointments, This is a great gift and a perfect wall hanging for a mid-century vibe.
