It is an Original Woodblock on paper, ca. 1950's. It depicts a Kamuro dancing for a patron. The piece is Titled, "Dancing Figure (Kamuro)" - a Kamuro is a young female attendant of child-age to a high ranking courtesan (prostitute). It is Numbered 258/300, on lower left. It has his red stamp or chop mark, on lower right and the last 2 images show the reverse of the paper, with the artist's "Self Carved - Self Printed" stamp, along with his name. 1" Wide, Rounded, Antiqued Gold, wood moulding, Acid Free mat and glazing are included in this listing.Image (mat) measures approx. 15 1/4 X 23 and is in Very Good Vintage condition.Outside measure of the frame is 21 X 28 and is in Like-New condition.Please carefully examine all images for condition.Apologies for glare or reflection in images due to photographing under glazing. *Kaoru Kawano (1916-1965) was a Japanese woodblock print artist who worked during the Showa period (1926-1989). Born in Hokkaido, Kawano studied at Kawabata Art School during the 1930's. He gained an international his reputation through successful solo exhibitions in North America and elsewhere. His prints frequently depict children and animals, combining Western-style elements with the tradition of woodblock printmaking.
