Description: Lionel 224 Vintage O 2-6-2 Die-Cast Steam Locomotive with 2466W Whistle Tender Here is a Lionel 224 Vintage O 2-6-2 Die-Cast Steam Locomotive with 2466W Whisting Tender from the 1940s. The 224 is one of the few Lionel engines made in both the Prewar and Postwar eras. It features a die cast metal body, motor, 3-position E-Unit, and an operating headlight. The cool little decorative metal bell is intact. It does not have a smoke unit. (This model was not manufactured with it.) A 2466W Whistling Tender is included which features a plastic shell, metal frame, whistle, operating knuckle coupler, die cast trucks, metal wheels and axles. This item is in excellent mechanical condition and in very good cosmetic condition. There are nicks, scratches, and chips on both the locomotive and tender. No significant rust. Additionally, signs of paint wear, chips, spray snow, and abrasions are visible throughout. Dust has collected, so the overall appearance of these items may be improved with a gentle and thorough cleaning. The wheels show signs of wear from previous use. The engine is quite heavy for its size (only about 10 inches long, but close to four pounds!) Should be an excellent puller. Engine runs great, e-unit functions consistently, and the light works. The tender whistle was cleaned and lubricated and also works well. The instruction manuals and original boxes are not included. This locomotive and tender are ready to run on your layout, or would make a great restoration project for the collector. Please see the photos.
