Description: Camels bladder water jug. Made by the Afar tribe. Ethiopia, Africa. 1850’s to late 1800’s. Fantastic shades of browns. Shows lots of patina from use and age. Some tears, none all the way through. See the last 2 pictures for details. 15” tall X 11 1/2” at the widest. 6 1/2” deep. The Afar was a nomadic tribe. Due to the characteristics of animals bladders. Would stay cool over long distances. 2 were tied over the camel for counter balance. Brutalist and beautiful esthetic. Simple way to not waste and to use for utility. Now a incredible art piece. Extremely rare to find.
