KLH Model Fifty Four 54 RARE! Serviced & Working! USA MADE! VTG Quad Receiver

Description: KLH Model Fifty-Four Quadrophonic receiver, 60WPC, serviced, fully tested, and working. Includes a copy of the service manual and the original owners manual, also very hard to come by. These are complex units, hard to find, and usually have issues. This is the nicest and most fully operational example I've found. This unit has a new tuner dial string, the controls have been cleaned with De-oxit and Faderlube where appropriate, and the phono section IC has been replaced with a NOS unit. Everything else is as KLH made it in 1973. The KLH Fifty Four was manufactured in the USA(!) and had a retail price of 549.95(!) in the mid '70s. I'd like to think they named it 'Model Fifty Four' in homage to KLH's first AM/FM solid state receiver, the legendary Twenty Seven of the early 60's. Just my opinion, but the math works.... Testing included hooking up speakers to all the outputs and connecting various components to all the inputs, including testing the phono section. I couldn't find anything wrong with it, the balance joystick works as it should, the various stereo modes worked, 2 channel mode works. All the lamps are lit, the controls are all working. FM reception is strong even with no antenna attached. How does it sound? Awesome. I have a Sansui 9090 and a Marantz 2270. The KLH 54 is no slouch and is well matched to KLH speakers like the Six and Five. I am unable to fully check the 'Quad' functions as I don't have that equipment or any Quad recordings. Please note! This is a 50+ year old piece of electronics. Despite the excellent operating condition, it's full of old parts that may fail at any time. No warranty is implied or intended, this item is sold as-is. I'm forced to list it as 'for parts or repair' due to ebay's return policies and the proliferation of scammers. I will accept returns on a very limited basis and only in the original packaging.
