They are made using all-Maple plys.This shell is considered "Covered Grade" appropriate for wrapped or opaque painted drum applications. This could mean several things: The shell may have an outer ply that has an off color wood or grain pattern, mineral streaks, insect marks or a manufacturing defect that is aesthetic in nature.Some of the above mentioned issues may be visible through clear or light colored stains or dyes. Therefore, we recommend these shells be wrapped or painted solid/opaque colors. (Many companies use Covered Grade shells regularly for high volume shells or sets that are wrapped.)The seam is within specification and filled but may not be completely closed.These shells are round and structurally sound. The above listed (possible) defects are aesthetic only and will have no effect on the sound or performance. This is a new drum shell with no holes, hardware, bearing edges or rings. We can cut the shell down to your preferred size if needed for a $7 cut charge.
