Description: THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND; or The Modern Robinson Crusoe Translated From the French by W. H. G. Kingston Complete in Three Parts. I. Dropped From The Clouds II. Abandoned III. The Secret Of The Island By Jules Verne; 145 Full-Page Illustrations Published by Scribner Armstrong & Co., New York, 1876. This book will come with a new, clear archival polyester cover and new custom-made full leather slipcase for the protection of your investment. The first American edition of The Mysterious Island was published by Scribner in three separate volumes. This is the first “combined” American edition. It is one of the rarest of the American first editions, next to the Osgood Twenty-thousand Leagues edition of 1873. As you can imagine, putting 3 books together in one wasn’t the best idea and it makes the book 2 1/4” thick and very heavy. The cheap publisher’s binding and the fact that these books were read over and over again practically guaranteed that most of these books either perished or are found in beat to hell condition. I have rebound and recased this book. There has been restoration work on the cover as well. DESCRIPTION: 8 1/2 x 6 x 2 3/8 inches each volume paginated separately: 308 + 304 + 299 + 4 (ads) pages CONDITION: This book is in very good condition with some restoration. The book is original with all text pages and illustrations present. The textblock was rebound into the original cover using new cloth spine reinforcing. The book’s corners have been stabilized. The cloth is generally clean and shows only light soil. The original gilt has faded, but has been retouched. The rebuilt corners, joints and spine ends have been retouched with a matching color. Also, there is a large spot with loss of color on the back board which has been given a little color to give balance. The book has new endpapers that closely match the originals. The first pages, including the title page through most of the contents pages are a little worse for wear, but edges and tears on some have been repaired or reinforced. The contents are a bit toned with age, but most are in better than average condition with little foxing and no tearing or smudges. The book will come protected with a slip case and clear mylar jacket. The slip case was constructed of acid-free materials and full leather including inset leather illustrations. It is heavy-duty and should last for many years. BECAUSE MEDIA RATE SHIPPING IS FREE ON THE BOOKS I SELL, COMBINE THIS WITH OTHER ITEMS FROM MY EBAY STORE.
