Description: Beautiful, colorful vintage Japanese woodblock print by Kasamatsu Shiro (1898-1991) entitled “Ikebana” (Flower Arranging). Although I’m not an expert, I believe the print is an original woodblock print (see https://ukiyo-e.org/image/jaodb/Kasamatsu_Shiro-No_Series-Ikebana-00030922-020518-F06). Print apparently features the artist’s signature and seal in the lower left corner of picture, the title in the upper left margin, and the publisher’s, printer’s, and carver’s seals in the lower left margin. The original date of this work may be from 1954 and, although this edition is apparently undated (the date would likely be below the seals in the lower left margin), it may be from c.1960. Print is on paper and is taped to matte. Matte measures approximately 16” x 20”. Print measures approximately 10 3/4" x 15 3/4". Estate sale find. Print appears to be in very good to excellent used condition with signs of wear and age, such as stray marks, spots, ink marks from the printing process, creases, wrinkles, wear along the edges and corners, and perhaps some discoloration on the yellow tray on the back of the print (although this could be a result of the printing process). “500,” “ROO522” (or “R00522”), “RG04,” and faint and indiscernible writing, perhaps “_280 (20),” are written in pencil in the bottom margin on the back of the print. The significance of this information is unknown. Tape at bottom of print appears to have lost its adhesion and has separated from matte. Matte and paperboard backing appear to be in good used condition with signs of wear, such as scratches, scrapes, abrasions, indentations, nicks, stray marks, rub marks, stains, spots, creases, bent corners, tape remnants and/or residue, and wear along the edges and corners.
