Description: This medal celebrates the centenary of the birth of one of the most famous opera composers of the late nineteenth century, Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901). Verdi’s best-known operas are still popular today: Rigoletto, Il Trovatore, and La Traviata. Ludovico Pogliaghi was one of the leading Italian sculptor-medalists of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He was born in Milan and studied at the Brera Academy in that city. Perhaps his best known works are the massive bronze doors for Milan Cathedral. Scarce. This medal will appeal to collectors interested in the history of music and opera. Extremely fine. Nice medium brown patina. See pictures.
