Description: I purchased Islands in the Net in an Easton Books SciFi Collector's Edition lot from an auction house in the Washington, DC area specializing in rare books. Award-winning Islands in the Net was written by Bruce Sterling and is part of the Easton Press Masterpieces of Science Fiction series. The book has the Collector’s Notes and original bookplate to personalize and attach. The pages have gold gilt edges, the book has four ribs on the spine, the Easton attached book ribbon, and blue leather covers with gilt designs. Condition: The book appears to be unread. There are some issues with the cover and gilt: there is a wrinkle on the bottom right of the front cover (last photo) and two small scratches on the longer edge of the book.Measurements: The book measures about 6-1/4" x 9-1/4" x 1-1/4."Shipping: I plan on shipping USPS Media Mail in a clean recycled box. Thanks for looking.Synopsis: Islands describes an early 21st century world, apparently peaceful, where delocalized networking corporations rather than governments, control the world. Globe-trotting PR executive Laura Webster, assigned to an international mission of diplomacy, after an assassination at the corporation where she is employed, and her husband are involved in a war between data pirates leading them in a search for international electronic terrorists. The author explores the gulf between the high-tech haves and have-nots. Smaller island nations have become sanctuaries for data pirates and terrorists. Laura finds herself trapped among escalating third-world hostilities and caught up in a data war of conspiracy and electronic warfare. About the author: Sterling writes in the Cyberpunk genre. He has written ten scifi novels such as the Mirrorshades anthology, Man-Made Self, Schismatrix, Heavy Weather, and a nonfiction novel, The Hacker Crackdown: Law and Disorder on the Electronic Frontier.
