Description: Imperial Russian soldier's "богатырка" hat- 1912. Extremely rare original "Bogatyrka" (later known as a "Budyonovka) soldier's cap developed for the March 6th,1913 300th Anniversary of the Romanov Dynasty parade. Two stamps on interior, one a manufacturer's with wording illegible, and a second with date 1912.Wool 1908 issue soldier's cloth with quilted cotton lining, horn buttons with leather straps. one large moth hole on back left panel of crown (photo 5) and a smaller hole (photo 6) on exterior of neck flap. Cockade in photo 2 is not permanently attached but for display. Overall good but worn condition. There is continuing controversy on the origin date for the production and introduction of the soldier's cap that came to be known as the Budyonovka. The earliest opinion dates it to being produced for the 300th Anniversary parade of 1913 but not being issued. Another opinion states they were manufactured in 1915 for the eventual Victory Parades to take place in Berlin and Constantinople which never took place. What is generally accepted is that the uniforms produced for the Red Army in 1918 indeed came from Imperial Army stocks that were warehoused prior to the 1917 Revolution but never issued.
