Description: This is a rare and massive Antique Meijii period Satsuma vase we believe a masterpiece by Eizan Kawamoto and can be dated ca 1900. Marked on the bottom in a blue glased square. The vase stands 72cm / 28.8 inch tall and the max diameter from the outside of the elephants is 49 cm / 19.6 inch Super vase with amazing carved decoration in panels at 2 sides with beautiful court scenes with writing people and ladies. Striking is also the amazing bamboo and gold lacquer imitation surrounding the panels and round the neck. Super carving, what a crafmanship, so fine decorated, the very very best that Japan had to offer at the time of the great world exebitions round 1900. Unfortunately the vase is not perfect, the top part is damaged and with old repair, from the neck downwards the body is in good and solid condition. Two tips of the elephant tusks missing and 2 half elephant ears piece missing. Documented in the 1904 St Louis World Exhebition Fair is a vase of the same shape and design by 'the Satsuma carver’ (see picture nr10 which is a card of the 1904 St Louis exhibition ) Rare vase of super quality !
