Description: HIGONOKAMI Mini TANTO KATANA Style Blue Paper SteelTraditional Japanese Knife Made in Japan HIGONOKAMI is a traditional Japanese folding knife with the history of over 130 years in production since 1894.It is sometimes said to be a "Japanese Opinel" with its same long history, simple construction, durability, and unchanging original shape.This has been a standard folding knife every Japanese familiar with.There have been about 40 factories manufacturing HIGONOKAMI in peak period (1950's), but only one small factory remaining now on the verge of extinction due to the appearance of pencil sharpner, snap-off blades, etc. Most of their knives are made with the traditional Japanese Katana forging procedure, which is to sandwitch harder steel with softer steel to realize both hardness and viscosity. This is a rare Non-Higonokami style (fixed blade) model by Kanekoma factory.Traditionally, Japanese people wear this kind of pocket sword (Futokoro-Katana) as an amulets.For instance, brides from samurai family brought these with her when married into.The blade length and thickness is almost same as regular Higonokami folding Tanto but with shorter handle. Traditional Japanese braided cord is rolled on the handle for better grip, and sheath with Japanese pattern is attached.It can be used as paper knife and other light jobs, ornament, or good for customizing by adding your own handle.The Blue Paper steel is made from composite of White Paper steel (the purest carbon steel) with chrome and tungsten.
