Description: This is a rare autographed souvenir program from the New York World's Fair musical revue "GAY NEW ORLEANS" which played Michael Todd's Theatre-Cafe in Chicago, Illinois. (The production was originally seen by 2,500,000 theatre patrons at the 1939-40 New York World's Fair, then after the fair closed, moved to the new Theatre Cafe in Chicago.) ..... Michael Todd took over and renovated the old Rainbow Gardens, a huge but defunct cabaret on the North Side of Chicago and opened it as Michael Todd's Theatre-Cafe. "Gay New Orleans" was the inaugural production. The show starred GYPSY ROSE LEE (who signed an inside page with the inscription, "Greetings!") and featured RUTH DENNEN, JOE FREDERICK, A. ROBINS, ROLA ROLA, WILLIE WEST and McGINTY and the NEW ORLEANS BELLES ..... CREDITS: Music and Lyrics by ALLAN ROBERTS, BUDDY BERNIER, JEROME BRAININ, RAY NOBLE, MITCHELL PARISH and PETER DeROSE; Musical Arrangements by TED ROYAL; Sets designed by WATSON BARRATT; Costumes designed by IRENE SHARAFF; Choreographed by IVAN FEHNOVA; Show Conducted by JAY FREEMAN; Directed by HASSARD SHORT; Produced by MICHAEL TODD ..... DETAILS: The oversized 20 page program measures 8 5/8" X 11 3/4" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, scenes and musical numbers, photos and bios of each of the leading actors, promotional text and several pages of production photos. The program was signed by GYPSY ROSE LEE (third scanned image) and will be accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity ..... CONDITION: (Please Note!) There are tape repairs on the front and back covers and inside the covers and moderate creasing. Despite these flaws, this rare program will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
