Description: Details: A fantastic and wonderfully designed antique George III Georgian large sterling silver 'coffee biggin' or coffee pot on paw footed stand with burner. The Biggin is hallmarked London, 1817 by Edward Edwards I and the stand matches the pot, both are hallmarked in multiple areas. Wonderful heraldic bird crest to the edge and strong wooden handle. Excellent condition and a highly unusual example. The burner features the original wick and is perfectly usable. Coffee biggins, invented by George Biggin, were originally designed to 'drip brew' coffee rather than merely boiling coffee and water in a saucepan and decanting straight into a cup. This is a wonderful item that would make a perfect gift or addition to any collection.
