DESCRIPTION Gentle Giant - “Giant For A Day” Capitol Records ST-11813 (Stereo) from 1978. Hard to find Original 1978 First Pressing Progressive / Pop / Classic Rock album from Gentle Giant featuring Derek Shulman, Ray Shulman, Kerry Minnear, Gary Green and John Weathers. In the Original Cover with NO Cutouts, Barcode or promo markings on the Purple Capitol labels. This is a Los Angeles / Hollywood First Pressing as indicated by the Runout Vinyl / Matrix markings which read: Matrix / Runout (Both sides Runout Stamped): ✲ MASTERED BY CAPITOL Matrix / Runout (Runout A Etched; “1" Stamped): SW-1-11813 F3• 1[sideways]Matrix / Runout (Runout B Etched; “2" Stamped): SW-2-11813 F3• 2[sideways] CONDITION The Sleeve is in good shape. There is some shelf wear, edge creasing and corner softening/wear. There is a little red ink dot in the upper left corner and small initials on the top back. Still solid with no splits, stains, tears, other writing, cutouts, etc. and would rate VG. The Vinyl is in clean Glossy condition looking lightly played. If you look closely you can spot a few light scuffs and a couple faint hairlines but still pretty close to New condition. VG+ visually and mostly plays EX but with a couple spots of faint groove noise - might well be improved with a better cleaning than I can give with my Discwasher brush. The labels show a couple light spindle trails and there is a name written on side 2 but they are otherwise Near Mint. If I provide Play Grades it is done as a courtesy but I only guarantee the Visual Grade. I have summarized the important (i.e. I think everyone knows what Mint means) points below in Goldmine's words: Very Good Plus (VG+): Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experience. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK. Very Good (VG): Surface noise will be evident upon playing,... Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as will light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound. I stand by my grades but would like us to be on the same page so no problems arise. I have been selling Vintage Vinyl for over twenty years on the net and I can count the returns I've had on one hand so I believe my grading is fair and accurate. One important note, I try to grade to these Goldmine guides as best as I can understand and apply them. This gives us both a written standard to go by rather than having to guess. But.... it also means that I don't issue refunds over differences of opinion in grading i.e. "That's not MY idea of a VG record!" - I don't know what your standards are and, as such, can't grade to them.
