His poem "Patience". Poet and humorist Frank Gelett Burgess (1866-1951) was obliged to resign from his teaching position (topographical drawing) at UC-Berkeley in 1894, after apparently toppling a temperance statue in San Francisco. He then founded a humorous magazine, The Lark (1895-1897), which published his own witty, short poems and works by other nonconformist writers. He coined the word "blurb," after using the pseudonym Belinda Blurb in a pithy quote praising his own book. He also wrote the "Goops" books for children. Burgess was married to actress and writer Estelle Loomis. Fine condition. See more material from these signers: GELETT BURGESS See more listings in our AUTHORS (1,858) category.
