Seward. Weed was also instrumental in the presidential nominations of William Henry Harrison, Zachary Taylor and John C. Fremont. Webster writes a friendly letter to Weed mentioning Pierce’s schedule. “Your letter found me so much enfeebled in the eyes by use of remedies...that a reply at that time was not of my purview. I am so much recovered as to be able to leave here on Monday next, and to hope to be at the Astor House by Wednesday evening following. “The President [Pierce] has just left for a short trip to Warrenton Springs. He will return on Monday next.
