Description: Very nice, early (probably 1920s) hand painted wood sign. Nice directional sign point to Tracks 3 & 5. I was told this came of a Central New Jersey railroad depot, but the sign is not specifically marked CNJ or any sort of markings, therefore I cannot prove it was a CNJ sign. This is still a very nice wooden railroad sign, with some minor, non-offensive condition flaws. The iron frame was bent upward at a top corner, causing the wood to crack. The first side pictured is the better side, and this damage does not affect this side. The reverse side, however, does have a slightly elevated spot from the fracture, about 1" down, and it goes up on an angle until it hits the iron frame, above the & symbol. It does not really affect the display, the surface did not split as a result. Besides this, I did not see any damage. Bottom frame was bent slightly at the edge. First side has minor, non-offensive scattered surface wear. Nothing serious, this side has a very nice surface and just the right amount of patina. Reverse side has similar patina, but does exhibit some more scratching and surface wear. There is a small sliver of wood fractured at the bottom of the arrow, but it remains intact. There was a small hole added on each end of the sign. The previous owner used eyehooks to hang this, I removed them for shipping. Overall a fine, early wood station side. Despite not having any definitive markings, it still would make a welcome display for any railroad collection. Nice wood sign! Measures approx. 30" by 9 1/2" by 3/4" thick. Will be shipped in several layers of cardboard.
