As Founder and Board President of the AAKOMA Project, Inc. (initially an academic psychiatry research lab; now a 501©(3) nonprofit), Dr. Breland-Noble and her team have built a research enterprise founded on the science of adolescent and community engagement. She was part of the senior leadership team with Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman and the Congressional Black Caucus on the report Ring the Alarm and the Pursuing Equity in Mental Health Act of 2019. Her academic publications and presentations reflect her commitment to a culturally relevant, patient centered approach to reducing mental health disparities. Her research interests include increasing mental health treatment use by African American youth, youth of color, families and communities, suicide prevention, mental health equity and stigma reduction, depressive disorders, mental illness and improving treatments for all youth.
