Description: During the 1950's and early 1960's, the Asahiflex camera (forerunner to the Pentax) was distributed in the United States by Sears Roebuck & Co. under the Sears brand name "Tower". Here we have the Tower 24, produced by the Asahi Optical Company for only three months between November 1954 and February 1955. These cameras are exceptionally rare!!! In non-U.S. Markets, this camera was sold as the Asahiflex IIB Model I. Between November 1954 and February 1955, Asahi produced only 30,000 examples of this particular body, that they branded under one of the three following names: 1.) Asahiflex IIB Model 1 2.) Tower 23 3.) Tower 24 The Tower 23 came with the f/3.5 50mm Asahi Kogaku. The Tower 24 came with the f/2.4 58mm Asahi Kogaku. Early production of the Asahiflex II B Model I came with the 3.5/50mm while later versions had the f/2.4 58mm. This specific camera is in good condition as you can see. It has its share of marks and blemishes and it needs a full mechanical overhaul as the shutter curtain and winding mechanism hang up and likely needs a clean and lube, but fortunately, most of the cosmetic flaw is on the top of the viewfinder housing and if you have another camera with a clean housing, you can easily swap them out. Either way, this is a must have for any true collector due to the limited rarity of this item. Comes with a f/2.4 58mm Asahi-Kogaku Takumar lens, s/n 62504.
