Chinese Export En Grisaille Sugar "From a Brother" 18th C

Description: Chinese Export En Grisaille "From a Brother" Sugar Chinese en grisaille sugar, Qianlong (1736-95). At the neck of the vase a gilt band with black flowers, and two pendant gilt hearts with the initials FL and B. Below this is an oval with a canal scene once thought to be after a Dutch original and perhaps with a view of Delft, with below the inscription "From a brother". This design and band with same initials is pictured in the book documented below. The pendant gilt hearts seem to tell a different story to the inscription, and it seems probable that this was made for the American or British market. A large punch bowl is recorded with this view coupled with two others, one of Mount Vernon, the other of a similar building. Approx. 4"H X 4" W. Documentation: China for the West, David Howard, John Ayers, p. 270 fig 267. Condition: Missing lid, handles sanded off. Terms of Sale Please review photos closely.
