Description: Frederick Kohner (1905-1986) was an Austrian-born novelist and screenwriter, most famous for writing the series of "Gidget" novels, which were based on his daugher, Kathy Kohner-Zuckerman. Today's volume, a very scarce first British edition from 1960, is the second of the Gidget books, which followed 1957's "Gidget, the Little Girl with Big Ideas." Kohner, a Jew, worked in the German film industry before he fled with his wife to America in 1936, where he wrote screenplays (including three for his brother, producer Paul Kohner, about whom he wrote "The Magician of Sunset Boulevard") and story treatments, receiving an Oscar nomination for the 1938 Deanna Durbin comedy "Mad About Music." Kohner also wrote an autobiographical novel of his time in Paris in the 1920s, struggling to become an artist while taking in all the delights of the city, including Kiki, the model made famous by Man Ray.
