CC-91 PCGS Choice New 63 $5 Jan. 14, 1779 Continental Colonial Currency

Description: CC-91 >> PCGS Choice New 63 Click images to enlarge Description Very Choice, One of the Highest Graded, and One of the Finest Known January 14, 1779 "FIVE DOLLARS" Continental Colonial Currency Note. Very Conservatively graded & certified by PCGS as Choice New CU63. This note has superb eye-appeal. Absolutely no problems of any kind, and there are no pin holes either. PCGS has graded (38) examples of a CC-91 over the last 15 years, with (17) of those being apparent graded with problems. Of the remaining (21) problem-free notes, only (1) is graded higher (at CU64 PPQ). PMG has graded (48) examples of a CC-91 to date (both net & problem-free). Only (2) are graded higher than this PCGS CU63 (both at CU65 EPQ). This PCGS CU63 CC-91 is certainly one of the finest known, and would be a highlight to any advanced continental note collection. Well-centered and darkly inked on both sides with deep paper embossing. Tiny reflective mica chips were placed onto the surfaces of this note, along with thick blue threads embedded into the ragpaper itself. Both devises were used as an attempt to deter counterfeiting. Also, this paper is watermarked "UNITED STATES" on two lines when held upto a light source (see attached photo). This also was used as an anti-counterfeiting device. Bold 5-digit serial number 54209 in dark red ink as is the signature of Daniel Wister, while the bold signature of Robert Caither is written in dark brown ink above. This is an authentic & historical item that was printed and issued in 1779 during the Revolutionary War (1775-83), less than three years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
