Whenever points are scored during the game, players can decide which meeple to advance on the scoring track. If a meeple lands on one of the dark spaces (5, 10, 15 etc.), the player draws a message tile and either scores points, or takes the action shown on the tile. These actions range from being able to immediately score a feature, thereby regaining a meeple, or being given an extra go.
