Description: The model 1840 saber, called the “Wrist Breaker”, was a relatively heavy Calvary saber, and as it was manufactured before the Civil War, it saw extensive use by both sides during the war. Manufactured by N.P. Ames, Cabotville, Massachusetts. Marks: Ricasso, N. P. Ames / Cabotville/ 1846 on left side, and US / (inspector) on right side. Additional inspector stampings, on pommel. Small nick on blade edge, as shown in photo. Also scabbard missing.
