(occurring in America's Bicentennial Year). Tournament winner that year was Mark Hayes with 273 (11 under par); while runner-up was Don Bies. Issued as a rare "CONTESTANT" badge (# 0046) to provide all access throughout the event (May 3 - 9, 1976). The event was originally begun as the Texas Victory Open (1944) when Byron Nelson (1912 - 2006) won the tournament with 276 (8 under). Among the great names to have won the tournament in future years were Sam Snead, Ben Hogan, Ben Crenshaw, Tom Watson, Jack Nicklaus, Miller Barber and Tiger Woods. Today, the event is known as the AT&T Byron Nelson, one of the most successful PGA charity tournaments of all time, reportedly having raised over $140 million for charity.
