Here are details regarding the original and best door panel kit made.Over 25 years ago, we gathered several good straight 2002 door panels from both early and late models, and digitized a perfect reproduction, making sure the shape and size are precisely correct, as well as the location of every hole. We even added an extra hole to account the slightly protruding head of one of the vent window regulator mounting bolts. To make the reproduction panel boards, the digital panel program is input into a CNC router and the new panel is precisely manufactured. There is no chance of human error! The chosen material is 1/8" thick (nominal) 3-ply hardwood that is the same thickness as the original stock un-swollen, un-warped fiberboard panel. This is not brittle MDF (medium density fiberboard) that will be permanently damaged if it gets wet. Because the new panel board is slightly less than 3mm thick, the OEM plastic door panel clips can be easily installed and adjusted as necessary. Any thicker and the clip position cannot be adjusted. Each panel is exact and a perfect fit. The fit was verified on both early and late 2002 doors to be sure every hole is perfectly placed and exact. We have been using the same program for over 25 years, and guarantee that every panel will fit your 2002 front door perfectly.We recommend installing a plastic moisture barrier between the panel and the door, as was done by the factory back in the '60s and '70s. In the event the barrier fails or is not present, and the Aardvarc plywood panel board gets wet, it will may swell, but will then contract back to its original thickness when it dries. The original fiberboard will not shrink back to its original thickness when it dries. Some customers apply a sealer to the exposed wood, but this is not entirely necessary if a moisture barrier is installed. On several occasions our customers have sent us panel boards manufactured by others out of wood, thick cardboard, or plastic, and we have found these other panels to be inferior to ours.
