With a rough edge and plenty of rocking, “BofD” shares the same earthy quality of blues/rock centered around a theme of the working man found on "John Henry" and "Dust Bowl". This album has it all; from rock, to rockabilly, to blues ballads, to traditional blues. Could it be that the ultimate “blues/rock” guitarist baton has been passed on to Joe Bonamassa? While it may be “Clapton sacrilege” to say this; I think maybe so. Joe sucks you in from the first note and never, never, never lets you go. Even on the slower songs Joe is guaranteed to rip your head off with a guitar solo in there somewhere. “How Deep This River Runs” is a perfect example. With a brief pause at the 2:30 mark Joe unleashes a primal guitar solo for the next two minutes only to drop you off right back where he left you to finish off the song. Brilliant! Then there's "No Good Place For The Lonely" an 8:33 killer where at 5:00 he unleashes for the remainder of the song; leaving you to just shake your head in wonder. After carrying you along a wild ride from the start, the album ends with probably the most “traditional” blues song on the album “What I’ve Known For a Very Long Time”. If dear BB King was still alive this would be a killer duet, definitely in his style. I could hear them trading guitar solos. A perfect ending to a stellar album that could be the best release I have heard all year. *** Rock On & Enjoy !!! ***
