Binary/Hex/Octal Editors for Windows UNIX/Linux Other

Description: cs2076 - Binary/Hexadecimal/Octal Editors for a Variety of Platforms This CD has 17 different packages for displaying and editing files in a binary form. Whether you are running on Windows (32-bit), UNIX, or Linux, or almost any contemporary operating system, if you have a need for a binary format editor, there is probably something here for you. Windows users will find binaries. UNIX/Linux users may have to run a compilation. In either case, the user may have to expand an archive file, typically using a utility such as WinZip or PKUNZIP or 7-zip for Windows users and the tar program for UNIX and Linux users. While the programs in this collection have been selected because they appear to be useful quality products, I cannot assure that they will be suitable for your purposes, or indeed for any purpose. Here are the packages that have been included: Binary/Hex/Octal Editors Hex Editor - hex-editor - An easy to use hex editor. It has a plain view, and a configurable GUI. Functionality includes Copy and Paste, Logic Or/And/Xor with 8,16,24 or 32 bit values, and resize. The program can edit large files. It is written in Visual Basic and runs on all 32-bit MS Windows systems. It is released under the GNU General Public License. Shed - A hex editor written for UNIX/Linux using ncurses. It displays data in ASCII, hex, dec, oct and binary, and allows editing in all of these bases. Features also include searching and dumping to a file. It has modest memory requirements, but can edit large files. The program is written in C and runs on all Linux/BSD/UNIX type systems. It is released pursuant to the GNU General Public License. heme - A portable and fast console hex editor for unix operating systems. It has undo support limited only by available memory, search capability, and initialization of an interval of memory locations. Offsets can be given in hexadecimal, octal or decimal. There are two editing modes: hex and ascii. In hex mode you type hexadecimal digits and in ASCII mode you type characters. In ascii mode the cursor is automatically moved to the next byte after typing a character (this behaviour is configurable for hex mode). Heme uses the curses library for screen and input handling, meaning that it requires very little in the way of system resources. Colors are supported and may be configured in the configuration file. It is written in C and runs on all Linux/BSD/UNIX systems. The heme program is distributed under the GNU General Public License. Hack - A Win32 Hex editor with REXX script capabilities. Hack is written in C and runs on all 32-bit Windows systems. Hack is still under development. It is in the public domain. FileX - A GUI based HEX editor with advanced functionality, for AmigaOS and MorphOS. It is written in C and distributed under the GNU General Public License. Java Hex Editor - java hexeditor - A hex editor written in Java as a standalone application using the SWT user interface, and also as an Eclipse plugin. It support editing of very large files. It can search for targets expressed in hex, ASCII, and Unicode. It has overwrite and insert modes, and cut/copy/paste in both binary and text formats. Because it is written in Java, this editor will work on many different platforms. It is made available pursuant to the GNU General Public License. Mickey - A hex/ASCII file viewer and editor that runs on all major operating systems. It is written in C++ and distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License. bvi editor for binary files - bvi - A display-oriented editor for binary files, based on the vi text editor. Users familiar with vi will understand bvi immediately. The bvi program is written in C and uses a Curses/Ncurses user interface. It runs on all Linux/BSD/UNIX type systems, and is distributed pursuant to the GNU General Public License. BIEW - Binary vIEW - A portable, advanced file viewer with built-in editor for binary, hexadecimal and disassembler modes. It contains a highlight AVR/Java/Athlon64/Prescott/K7-Athlon/Cyrix-M2 disassembler, full preview of MZ, NE, PE, LE, LX. BIEW runs on all 32-bit Windows Linux/BSD/UNIX type systems including Mac OS X, QNX, IBM OS/2, and MS-DOS. It is written in C and uses a Curses/Ncurses user interface. BIEW is released under the GNU General Public License. Hexplorer - Binary (hexadecimal) editor for Windows - Hexplorer runs on all 32-bit Windows systems. It is made available under the terms of the GNU General Public License. bbe - An editor for binary files, much like sed. Instead of reading input in lines as sed does, bbe reads arbitrary blocks from an input stream and performs byte-related transformations on found blocks. It is run from the command line. The bbe package is written in C and is suitable for all Linux/BSD/UNIX systems. It is licensed under the GNU General Public License. Binary Editor - binedit - A simple PERL utility for examining and manipulation of binary files. It supports flipping a bit in a byte with a specified offset, setting a byte to a specified value, searching for a sequence of bytes, and reading a byte of a file. Because it is written in PERL, it is fairly system independent. The bindedit package is released pursuant to the BSD License. Bpe - A relatively-simple and easy-to-use, screen-oriented, curses-based binary editor. It is written in C and will run on all Linux/BSD/UNIX type systems. Bpe is made available under the BSD License. GHex - A simple binary editor. It lets users view and edit a binary file in both hex and ascii with a multiple level undo/redo mechanism. Features include find and replace functions, conversion between binary, octal, decimal and hexadecimal values. Users can edit multiple documents with multiple views of each. It uses the X Window System and requires Gnome 1.2 or later. GHex is released under the GNU General Public License, Version 2. HT - A file editor/viewer/analyzer for executables. HT can run on any 32-bit Windows system, as well as all Linux/BSD/UNIX systems, MS-DOS, and Xbox. It is distributed under the GNU General Public License. KHexEdit - A versatile and customizable hex editor. It displays data in hexadecimal, octal, binary and text mode. New input can be inserted into the file or it can replace current data just as with a text editor. Undo/Redo functionality is included as well as formatted. KHexEdit is designed to integrate into the KDE environment but can be used as a standalone program as long as the KDE and Qt libraries are installed on your computer. It works for both KDE-1x and KDE-2x. KHexEdit supports the KDE drag and drop protocol as well as the XDND protocol for drag and drop of files onto the editor. KHexEdit is suitable for Linux/UNIX systems, and is distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License. An HTML manual is included. MadEdit - A Cross-Platform Text/Hex Editor written in C++ and wxWidgets. It can edit files in Text/Column/Hex modes, and supports many useful functions, e.g. SyntaxHighlightings, WordWrap, and various Encodings. It can edit large files, and syntax sensitive highlighting for many programming languages. MadEdit can run under Linux/UNIX/BSD systems ans under all 32-bit Windows systems. It is written in C++ and is distributed under the GNU General Public License.
