On March 17, 1899, there was a fire in the basement that caused $25,000 in damages. Several people narrowly escaped from the hotel. During the infamous hurricane of 1938, there was furniture floating in about 6' of water in the lobby. The hotel fell into disrepair in the 1950s and was demolished in 1960.
