Description: ANTIQUE ROSEWOOD FRAME of a STILL LIFE PAINTING featuring a hand FAN with red scarf PEWTER CANDLE STICK green candle & Pottery plate. The most impressive part is the table cloth draping off the table showing the shadows and creases flowing together. The painting needs some restoration. See photos. Painting is unsigned. Not certain if that type of paint used. Guessing the age late Victorian or Edwardian. This painting comes from a local Midwestern estate sale. A man picked up a painting from same stack. It had a much difference theme. That painting was also unsigned. On the back was a note signed by Grace Cossington Smith. His painting was far more Smith’s later style. I researched Smith. She travelled to the USA later in the 1950’s. She was in art training Prior to 1912 when she visited England. And her early work began with painting still lifes. It’s a far stretch. Not 100% certain the frame is rosewood but having dealt with rosewood furniture from the late 1800’s, it has striking similarities. Measurements — Frame 27” tall, 20.5” side to side, 1” thick. Painting is 24” tall and 18” wide.
