Description: Set of six Lime Rock railroad conductor's leather ledgers from 1905 to 1909. The ledgers are titled "Good Rock" or "Freight Coal, Poor Rock and Chips". Each ledger seems to be an account of what was on the trains, how much, what day, to and from, and a couple short hand notations. Four ledgers are used cover to cover, Good Rock 1909 is three-quarters used and Freight 1909 is half used. Condition: There is spine wear on 2 ledgers. All books have edge wear consistent with age. The binding is solid and all pages are in good shape. Measurements: 6-3/4" x 4-1/8" x 3/8" "Operating from 1888 to 1942, the Lime Rock Railroad supported one of Rockland’s most important industries, transporting lime from the quarries at the Highlands to the kilns. The railroad operated on standard-gauge track, where many of Maine’s purpose-built lines relied on narrow gauge track. This allowed the line to operate on not only the Knox & Lincoln County Railroad track, but also on the Rockland, Thomaston and Camden Street Railway, increasing its range."
