Description: This is an original antique (late 19th century) solid oak barrel churn on the original stand. Stenciled in black on one side is "Hawthorne, No. 1" and on the other is "Montgomery Ward Co." The original latching lid is intact and the hook that holds the barrel upright, but the handle is a replacement. The handle fits on the onto the square post on the side and rotates the churn, but does not have a way to attach securely so it can be pulled right off and is more suitable for display only. The churn is in very good condition and is sturdy and solid. Nothing is loose. There are some age-related surface cracks in the wood but no major damage or broken pieces. The entire piece has acquired an aged patina and it displays beautifully! The barrel is likely not water tight and would not be functional as a churn today. The frame easily screws together and will be disassembled for shipping. Overall assembled dimensions are 22 1/4" L x 21 3/4" W at the base x 29" H. The barrel itself measures 15" in diameter x 16" H. All pieces will be packed securely and fully insured during shipping. Please provide a street address for shipping as this will not be delivered to a PO box. Advertised shipping cost covers shipping within the lower 48 states. Please ask for a shipping quote to AK, HI, or Puerto Rico.
