Description: This is a lovely and charming Antique Old Primitive American Folk Art Still Life Oil Painting on canvas, depicting a scene of several foods and drink displayed on a table. Fruit and wine, including a cantaloupe, grapes, watermelon and apples, are visible, among others. This is a wonderful Folk Art painting from 19th c. New England. Signed in graphite on the top stretcher bar of the verso it reads: βGivent Mary Anderson 1925 for Love and Kindness. Painted by E.M. Haines at Gray, Maine about 1890.β Additionally, on the lower stretcher bar of the verso, the name: "Lillie H. Hurd" is written in graphite. I could not find any information on the artist, or these additional names that are mentioned, but perhaps you recognize the artist or their work? Approximately 19 x 27 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 14 x 22 inches. Good condition for over a century of age and storage, with a few small tears to the canvas, and mild craquelure in a few places (please see photos.) Additionally, there is moderate scuffing and edge wear to the original period wooden frame (please see photos.) Acquired from an old collection in Los Angeles, California.
