This is a very old Wakizashi from the Muromachi period ca. 1550 era made blade (over 400 years old) The blade is signed ** "Kanefusa", shinogi zukuri shape. The blade is in recent full polish from Japan, there is no rust, no stain and is in MINT condition. The Temper line is a beautiful wavy gunome-midare temper pattern and has a deep temper at the point. The forging grain is tight, with no openings, no blister and no forging flaws. There is no bend, no nicks, no cracks and the cutting edge is razor sharp. The saya (scabbard) is urushi lacquered wood and is in good condition. The Tsuka (handle) is tight fit with gold inlay iron fuchi / kashira in excellent condition. The Tsuba (hand guard) is mokkogata shape gold overlay shakudo nanakoji tsuba with a nice patina. The cutting-edge measures: 16 inches, 1 1/16 inches width, 5.5 mm thickness at the notch, and 26 inches in mountings. This is an exceptionally beautiful blade. ** The "Kanefusa" lineage of swordsmiths of Mino Province dates back to the Muromachi era in the 1400's.
