Description: ARTIST: Gerhard Blom is a well-listed Danish artist, whose works have been offered at auctions multiple times, including famous auction houses such as Bruun Rasmussen, Christie’s. He was an exhibitor at the famous Charlottenborg, but also had works exhibited in Chicago, Munich and Paris. He studied at the Royal Academy of Art in Copenhagen and at Zahrtmann’s school. He especially enjoyed travelling to Italy, particularly Rome, but also went to Chicago from 1892-1893, where he was married for the first time. In 1921 he was married a second time to Danish artist Gerda Strøm. He was a part of a community of artists called “Dyrehavens malere” (Dyrehaven is a scenic area north of Copenhagen). He is very versatile and his choice of motifs include portraits, landscapes, interiors, animals and Italian scenes. PAINTING: Oil on board. The painting is an impressionistic rendering of a Danish lakeside during winter. Patches of snow cover the forest path and the 3 woodpiles, which graze the lake. On the back of the frame is an old sticker from the art gallery, that once had the painting. An inscription on the sticker identifies the lake as “Løgsø”. This lake is a small lake located to the northwest of Copenhagen – not far from Dyrehaven. Today the lake is more often called Løjesø and is popular place for family outings. The painting is dated to 1919. Signed: “Gerh. B.” in the lower right corner. SIZE: With frame: 44 cm/17.3" * 35 cm/13.8". Without frame: 33,5 cm/13.2" * 24,5 cm/9.6". CONDITION: The painting is in great ready-to-hang condition - no holes, tears or missing paint. The frame has scratches and stains.
