Description: Fantastic large one of a kind antique horse and buggy toy The quality and craftsmanship of this item is truly remarkable Measures 16 1/2” in length, 9” high and 6 1/2” wide at largest points Age and origin unknown, but likely from the second half of the 19th century The horse is constructed of wooden legs and paper mache body covered in burlap, with leather ears, horse hair mane and tail, painted mouth, and nailed for eyes. It measures 9” tall, 8 1/2” long and 2 1/2” wide. The horse was likely at one time attached to a base that served to make it a pull toy, which is now missing The gig is finely constructed entirely of wood except for the seat, which is silk over feather down attached with decorative brads. Exterior is painted black with blue pin stripping throughout and has crazing dues to its age. Wheels are also wood with each spoke being attached with a single nail through the rim Every piece of this was made by hand and would have taken a truly skilled individual a considerable amount of time to produce It’s fragile but also very sturdy. The wheels are strong with no give to their structure, but have some wobble due to the gapping on the axle The horse has hair loss, missing nails, brittle leather, dirt, glue, and other condition issues for a piece of its age. The reins and possibly other leather appear to be replacement The gig has paint and other loss, missing nails and brads, rips to the seat, staining to the fabric, dirt, minor surface rust to the nail heads, and other issues for a piece of its age Please see photos for actual condition
