Description: Antique Chinese Framed Hand Painted Silk Paintings Song Dynasty (960-1279) Emperor Gaozong and Empress Xing. Beautifully executed with great details. Hand-painted original work, presented in beautiful gold carved wood frames. Chinese artisans traditionally made silk paintings. Historically, practitioners would use a stone to smooth out the surface of the silk. Once primed, the silk was adorned with designs rendered in colorful mineral pigments or black ink (often made from soot and an animal-based adhesive). The latter was mostly used for calligraphy, one of the most important Chinese art forms and earliest incarnations of silk painting. These very decorative and historical paintings would enhance any setting. The frames do show some wear , consistent with age. They are being sold as is , as there is some minor damage to the paintings, consistent with age. Empress painting has a scratch on background in the top right corner and a small stain above her head on the left side of background. Emperor has one very small scratch located on right side of background . Also, the silk matting on both paintings do show some age.
