Description: This is a blue first generation antique Nueva Cadiz three layer compound, drawn twisted bead which was quite possibly made in Murano, Italy and which was found in Peru, South America. This antique Nueva Cadiz bead measures 0.85 inches long by 0.22 inches wide and is in good but rustic condition with a shallow end ding that travels onto the surface of the bead and some small white dots in one area. Nueva Cadiz beads such as this were traded to the New World by the Spaniards during their travels beginning in the 15th century and eventually were traded onwards being distributed throughout North and South America. Please see 'Volume 7 - Chevron And Nueva Cadiz Beads' by John & Ruth Picard for more information. Nueva Cadiz beads can also be seen in the book 'The History Of Beads' by Lois Sherr Dubin on the timeline bead chart between 1500 and 1600.
