Description: Original oil painting on canvas by Swedish/American artist Ragnar Olson (1884-1949), a New York modernist painter. This atmospheric painting is a rather eerie view of tall sailing ship in a blizzard and is signed and dated by the artist at bottom right. The reverse bears a handwritten pencil title and it is framed with a wooden strip edging. The painting is oil on canvas on stretchers and measures 24 x 20 inches. Excellent original condition. Ragnar Olson (1884-1949) was born in Goteborg, Sweden and emigrated to the U.S. in 1899. He was an early modernist and a member of the Society of Independent Artists and the Salmagundi Club in New York. Olson was an easel painter known for New York cityscapes and marine paintings, he exhibited widely in the 1930s and 40s and won a number of prizes. Olson returned to his native Sweden in 1947 and died there in 1949.
