Description: This unique and one-of-a-kind painting is a must-have for any fan of Kung Fu Action movies and ethnographic art. Produced after the movie's release in 1978 by an unknown artist from Ghana, the painting is rendered with oil paints on a large flour sack canvas. It measures 45"x64". Ghanaian film posters are highly collectible and have been featured in museums and galleries in Los Angeles, New York, Hong Kong, San Francisco, Chicago, and across Europe. Released in 1982 "Snake in the Eagle's Shadow" (aka Eagle Claw Snake Fist Cat Paw) was Jackie Chan's Jackie's first big hit. It's easy to see why it was so popular when it was first released. Nobody had ever seen comedy and kung fu mixed together before. And if it wasn't for Jackie, we might have never have. According to Silver Emulsion Film review Snake in the Eagle' Shadow is one of the most important and most influential kung fu films of all time, not only giving Jackie Chan his breakthrough hit, but also introducing the world to a style of kung fu film that had never really been seen before. A bit of background on this art form: In the 1980s, thanks to the invention of video recorders, the first mobile cinemas arrived in Ghana. Distributers would travel from village to village equipped with a selection of movie cassettes, a TV set, a VCR, and a generator. To draw attention to their performances they commissioned artists to create large painted posters. They were usually painted with oil paints on stitched together flour sacks. Each artist was allowed to create their own design drawing from the cassette covers, movie scenes and their own imaginations, therefore each poster is unique. The arrival of digital print technology around the year 2000 and the advent of buying or streaming their own movies at home brought this unique art form to an end. Therefore very few are being produced today. (Act now, supplies are limited!) Please contact me before you buy if you have any questions.
