Growing to 5 or 7 feet, ‘Semaphore’ features slender, dark purple-grey to bluish-bronze leaves topped by spikes of narrow-petal flowers of an unusual glowing color that’s not quite yellow and not quite orange, perhaps flickering tongues of flame would be the best description. This Canna is great planted in a grouping where its gorgeous details may be enjoyed up close as well as planted in mass in your landscape. Cannas love heat and humidity and require a minimum of four hours of direct sunlight. Seeds of this canna variety are very rare to find and they are never offered for sale as seedlings, most likely, will not grow true to type BUT will develop into new variations! Experimental Seeds. Culture: Light: Grow Canna in full sun to partial shade. It will benefit from some midday shade in hot climates. Moisture: Cannas grows best in a moisture retentive soil. Water freely when in bloom. Hardiness: USDA Zones 8-11. Where not hardy, Canna can be lifted and brought indoors for winter. The foliage does not resist to frost. The plant can still survive if it loses its leaves, they will grow back in spring. When the leaves become blackened from the first good frost, cut off the stems and leaves and dig up the rhizomes for winter storage in damp peat or sawdust. In zones 7 and 8 you can usually get away with leaving the rhizomes in the ground under a thick layer of mulch. Propagation: Propagate cannas by division of the rhizomes. Packaging and Shipping: You will receive clean disease free and Canna virus free sprouted Canna rhizomes ready for potting or planting that could be partly rooted and already came into leaf (depending on availability). Each Canna variety rhizomes ships individually packed and labeled in separate bag – no mixed or loose bulbs! Each order includes detailed planting instruction. Rhizomes Ships by USPS Priority Mail to US mainland ONLY - No international shipping. Combined Shipping: Yes. Even if you decide to pay separately for every single item, don‘t worry, I will combine your items manually into one order and refund shipping difference if there‘s any.
