Description: One packet of more than 50 seeds Raising hybrid Streptocarpus (Cape Primrose) from seed is a great indoor project for gardeners and plant lovers. This is our 2023-24 offering of seeds from the named hybrid Streptocarpus cultivar DS 'Gotika' (first picture). These seeds were produced, via hand-pollination, with pollen from a greater number and variety of other named cultivars than our previous offerings. The pollen parents include (pictured in this order) DS 'Black Monkey,' 'Dracula's Shadow,' 'Hebe,' 'Lolita,' Harlequin Lace,' 'Midnight Romance,' 'Burgundy Ruffles,' and other named cultivars, as well as a few of 'Gotika's own black or near-black seedlings (last two photos, for example). Some self-pollination may also have occurred. Other photos of these cultivars can be found elsewhere online. These seeds were produced in spring and summer 2023 and collected at the end of the year. Stored cool and dry, they will remain viable for two years or longer. These seeds can be shipped safely at any time of year. We have tested seeds stored outdoors for several days at temperatures colder than -20C and they germinated just fine. Plants raised from these seeds will not be identical to the parent(s). Flowers may resemble one or both of the parents in colour, form, size, and/or markings. Expect dark purple and near-black flowers, as well as some dark red or pink flowers, perhaps. Look in the category "Streptocarpus Propagation."| Seeds begin to sprout around two weeks after sowing, and first flower buds can appear 4-6 months later (depending on the time of year and growing conditions). Display your potted plants outdoors in summer, in a cool, shady spot, or keep them indoors in a window or under lights. A well-tended plant at its peak, usually beginning in late spring, will cascade with blossoms for many weeks, and can go on flowering, at a lesser rate, through autumn and right up to the darkest days of winter. Streps are easy, rewarding houseplants all year round. We have them sitting in windows on every side of the house, where they flourish in bright, indirect natural light. The seeds are very small (third picture) and can be tricky to handle, but each packet is sure to contain more than the stated number.
