Description: He was born on December 3, 1823 in the town of Samokov. At first he studied in his hometown, and then continued his education in Plovdiv. From a young age, he entered art, helping his father in painting the icons in the Plovdiv church "Holy Sunday". In 1850 he went to Moscow, where he studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, and later, from 1853 to 1856, at the Imperial Art Academy in Petersburg in the class of F. A. Bruni. After his return to Bulgaria, he changed his name to Dospevski and became the progenitor of secular realistic portraiture. He lives in Pazardzhik and Samokov, but continues to paint in Plovdiv.
