Description: For you to consider is an exquisite pair of 19th century French cold painted spelter figural page boy candlesticks. Created and beautifully cast in the renaissance style, they date to the last half of the 19th century and are likely French in origin. Intricate hand-painted details, some of which appears to have been restored, enhance each of the figures with rich and vibrant coloring. A few areas of repair can be found...both of the bobeche and candle cups have been reattached, one figure shows repair to the wrist that holds the rod that attaches to the bobeche as well as where the rod attaches to the figure at its base. These are not noticed or distracting unless looking for them and appear to have been well executed repairs of quality. The base to one does not rest level and does rock ever so slightly, and also shows a small shallow dent in its side that is not immediately obvious. One of the prickets in the candle cup is missing. The candlesticks stand approximately 16" in height (one being slightly shorter) on a 5" diameter base with foliate and scroll details.This is truly a handsome well crafted pair that, despite the repair work and restoration, displays extremely well and are solid and functional as is. Wear is commensurate to age and history of honest use across 150 years, so please regard the photos as they form a descriptive part of the listing.
