Description: 1963 $5 Red Seal AA 7915 Shift error 3rd print XF40? BP# 4 Nice find. NOTICE: This IS an error note X 2. See below please. First of all, regarding the errors, finding error notes is quite a chore. One must sift through thousands of notes, and literally hundreds of hours looking for notes which should have been pulled off the line and reprinted. Then becoming a STAR note. If you're not sure about star notes, let me know or simply look them up. Let's to it by the pictures. 1) 1st picture is a frontal or 'obverse' as numismatists like to call the front of a note or coin. The eye is drawn to the bulls eye red seal, which is the focus of this note. The trained eye will notice quickly how much the red seal is removed from being in the center of the big grey word "TWO". It is your first error. which is picture #3.2) The 2nd picture is the reverse, and enlarging it, you can see the backplate #4. When Back Plate #'s can go to the four figures, to find one with a low number like 4 is intreguing. Us collectors like low numbers, don't we? Now to go to the point really, sometimes a backplate number can have significance. Let's see if this one helps our value. Nope, no help except for the extremely low number adds a bit.3) The last picture focuses on the fact that the inker guy slopped too much ink on the serial number on the obverse of this note and some of it smooshed through, so it shows on the back. He may have not set the serial number correctly, and it pressed through. In any case, you should not be able to read the serial number from the back [unless you hold it up to a strong light]. The Guru of information regarding paper money is the Whitman's encyclopedia of U.S. Paper Money says on page 897 that errors go from $20 - $50. These are simple errors. Major errors can go from hundreds to thousands. Our errors here are fairly common, (not found often though) and let's price them at $20 each, the minimum. It's a fiver, so that = $45 so far. Ebay needs some lunch, so let's give them $5 and PP needs 3% let's not tell them. LOL. Now shipping is in there. I figure $3. So that's about $53 and none for me. Now if you want to put in a cup of coffee for me, (Wendy's gives me free coffee when I buy something) so let's say $2 for a burger ok? So... $55.
