Description: Brass dagger with brass scabbard fashioned to use as a letter opener. The handle resembles a serpent and the end of the scabbard resembles a duck head. Marked "Izmir" on the blade. When we lived in Germany, my father extensively traveled in Europe with his job. He always brought something back for everyone in the family upon his return. What better thing to bring back to a boy than anything that resembled a dagger or edged weapon. He brought this back for me on a trip to Turkey in the 1960's. I have another brass letter opener from Turkey that he brought back on the same trip for sale on ebay. I've loved and cherished it for decades now, but it is time to pass it on to someone else who may cherish it as much as I did for so many years. This measures about 6.5 inches from scabbard tip to end of the handle. The "dagger" itself measures about 5 3/8 inches. The cube is in the photo for a size comparison. It measures 1 cm but it nor the stand are part of the sale. In good used condition. Age patina. Please review the photos as they are part of the description and show the actual item you will receive.
